As we move on through the world of Islam, I wanted to share the word diffusion with you. Scientifically speaking diffusion means moving a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. However in history diffusion takes on a cultural meaning. For example, Minecraft is a very popular game today in the United States even though it comes from Sweden. It popularity of course came from Youtube. Thus Minecraft was diffused from Sweden to the rest of the world through Youtube.
Well the Islamic religion, beliefs, and laws were also diffused. Mostly through trade, but also through military conquest. We will learn about Islam's growth over the next few days by studying primary sources.
