Excellent work yesterday.

If you did not finish your notes, that is homework.  Take a look a the exit quiz from yesterday.

The format of the first question gave a lot of folks trouble.  It is a fill in the blank with two blanks question.  Simple enough on its own, but the multiple choice answers confused a few folks.

Take a look at the sample below.

The mascot of Los Osos Middle School is _____________, while MBHS is the ______________.  You all know the answers are Lions and Pirates.  But be careful if the answers are multiple choice.

A.  Pirates, Lions
B. Tigers, Lancers
C. Lions, Pirates
D. Chipmunks, Squirrels.

If those are your choices, then C would best complete the sentence.

If you think you answered your exit slip question incorrectly yesterday, then give it another try.

Now on to today.  I have time built in if anyone else would like to share their awesome project.
After, we will watch a short video on Rome.

Do not forget to get your IAN signed this evening if you have not done so.  It is due tomorrow.

I really enjoyed the sharing of projects yesterday.  Great stuff.  

On tap for today,

Rome splits into two halves.  How was it cut into two?  Well as Maddie F. would say "with a pair of Caesars." chuckle, chuckle.

Seriously,  the western half of Rome will keep its capital in the City of Rome.  It will be governed by many different emperors after the split, some of them from Germanic tribes.  They will retain Latin as their language, and the state religion will become what we know today as Roman Catholic.  The bishop of Rome will take on the title of pope and will be separate from the emperor.

The eastern half will become known as the Byzantine Empire.  It comes from the Greek area known as Byzantium.  The state language will become Greek.  Their Emperors will not only govern the government, but will also be in charge of the religious side of the house.  The religion in the east becomes Greek Orthodox.  The capital will be Constantinople which is know today as ................put on headphones and click here.

Happy Monday,

Today we are doing quite a bit.

You will need to set up your parent signature and reflection pages in you notebook.  You will also need to update your table of contents.

Notebooks are due on Friday with a parent/guardian signature.  Share your notebook and you blogs with your folks.  After all, you do great things.

Then we will see if students want to share their PBL.  On this project sharing is voluntary, but important none-the-less.

Finally, you blog from last week is due today.  Good luck, and have a great week.

Today is a work day.

Here are three things you may work on.

Today's Exit Slip Questions:1.  Define decay.2.  Give two reason why Rome fell into a state of decay.  Defend your answer in complete sentences.Turn this in on paper.
Your blog post # 3.

Blog Question/Topic:  Discuss one internal and one external factor in Rome’s fall.  Why do you think the factors you discussed are important in Rome’s fall?  Do you think that a modern civilization like the U.S. could suffer the same fate?

Bonus add  links or pictures to a cartoon that describes your reasons.

Write the question in your blog. Due Monday.

Continuing on with did Rome Fall or was it pushed?

On page 20 of your notebook, create a t-chart with two categories.  The first category is
 Internal Factors (fall).  The second category is External Factors (pushed).
Read the The Ten Theories on the Fall of Rome.

Match the slides to the ten theories. If you want to really rock it, then find a more current cartoon that fits each theory.

Today's Exit Slip Questions:

Turn this in on good old fashioned paper.  Don't forget to put your name in the upper right hand corner.

Think about the categories that you created as group yesterday.  How do they fit with the new reading.

On page 19: Create a Cornell notes page with a straight line down the middle.

Add these questions:  

1. What factors led to barbarian invasions?
2. How did large farms and LATIFUNDIAS affect the economy?
3. Why is it important to have a system in place to select a new emperor?
4. How did the sheer size of the empire lead to chaos?

Write a summary using these words:

barbarian

Latifundia

inflation

corruption

expansion
